Biography
From Pittsfield, Massachusetts, I acquired my undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1984 and my law degree from the McGeorge School of Law in 1990.
My first year of practice was spent as an insurance defense counsel at the Fairfield, CA firm of Goodman, Herbert & Lucas. In 1992, I joined the criminal defense firm of Bonjour & Thorman in Hayward, CA. During this time, I also served as a Judge Pro Tempore in the Hayward Traffic Court.
I have operated my own law office in Inyo County since 1995. From 1996 until 2008, and again from 2020 to present, I have served as a Public Defender for indigent defendants in Inyo County, while also providing legal services to private practice clients.
I have handled every kind of criminal matter from traffic tickets to first-degree murder. A veteran of over 75 criminal jury trials and twice as many bench trials, my courtroom knowledge and experience rivals or exceeds that of any attorney currently practicing in Inyo or Mono County. In addition, I have almost 20 years experience in dependency and juvenile delinquency cases.
Family and Community Involvement
I am the proud father and step-father of 5 sons, ranging in age from 18 to 30 years. I have served as a referee for AYSO for 20 years. Many members of the community may recognize me from roles I have played in various Playhouse 395 productions over the years.
I served as the Present of the Inyo/Mono Advocates for the Handicapped (IMAH) from 1998-2008. I played an instrumental role in the acquisition of IMAH's facility on Warren Street. Currently, I provide support to activities in Big Pine as needed.
Finally, with the support of my wife, children, family, and friends, I entered recovery 10 years ago and remain active in my church and recovery community.
As a tireless advocate for my clients with a broad range of experience in all aspects of the court system, I bring energy, experience, and enthusiasm to the role of Superior Court Judge. I am ready to hit the ground running on day one!
